Working with Great Ormond Street Hospital, Kinseed identified a major gap in accessing patient data. The monitoring of patients during transit to the hospital was predominantly manual and high-effort. A solution for real-time monitoring did not exist and handover processes were manual, slow and prone to error.Using a standard bedside monitor to track patients’ vital signs, Kinseed created an application to access and analyse this data in real-time, which consultants could access from their phones and tablets at Great Ormond Street Hospital or from wherever the specialist resided when providing care. The challenge for Kinseed was connectivity. The company needed a partner that could provide reliable and robust connectivity, ensuring that consultants were able to access critical patient data without issue.

ABC Company’s site consists of multiple industrial motors, called drives, that are used to bend wire into hangers.  Currently they use a system called File Maker to manually input inventory and job details.  Information such as job started, stopped, maintenance required, wire required, and others are all manually written on log sheets before being inserted into the main File Maker database.  The current process is slow, not in real-time, and allows for mistakes to occur in the data entry.  There are also two site locations, and for the remote site the data needs to be sent to their main site for data logging.The company is currently updating all their drives which will allow them to have all the data points available as Modbus TCP data points.  We have been asked to help the customer integrate the Modbus TCP data automatically from the drives and send it directly to the File Maker system using HTTP requests in real time.NEEDS / REQUIREMENTSA custom Modbus TCP driver to get data from the drives and push various state data and inventory information to File MakerStable hardware and/or software to be installed on both the local and remote site to gather, store, and transmit the dataNeeds to be scalable and efficient

McDonald’s Save the Sundae Cone campaign had a McDonald’s Sundae Cone on the digital billboard, which was slowly melting in the heat of the city. To “save” the sundae cone, the audience needed to spin a giant fan that would ‘cool’ the sundae cone and ‘un-melt’ it. They did this by spinning a mini-fan, which was accessed through their mobile device’s web browser. At the end, participants were given a voucher on their smartphone to be redeemed at a McDonald’s across the street for a free sundae cone. The realtime network needed to be able to handle hundreds of users simultaneously, and with such a large audience, 100% uptime was vital for the campaign.

» Approximately 3 billion people, about 40 percent of the world’s population, depend on traditional cookstoves that use fuels like firewood, cow dung and crop residues for their cooking needs. The Global Burden of Disease Study 2010 estimates that 4 million people die each year as a result of inhaling the smoke and soot produced by cooking over traditional cookstoves.» Switching to clean cookstoves can reduce the amount of firewood used for cooking, as well as the amount of smoke indoors and outdoors. This could lead to reduced pollution and improved health for the women and children who are most exposed to the smoke. Unfortunately, not all clean cookstoves perform well in the field and preferably only the most advanced clean biomass-burning cookstoves should be used. While even these cookstoves still burn locally available biomass, but dramatically and measurably reduce harmful emissions.» At a cost of approximately 2700-6500 Indian rupees (US $42-$100) each, advanced clean cookstoves are currently unaffordable for the estimated 2 billion people worldwide living on less than US $3 per day. Registered carbon credit programs are beginning to provide financial incentives for reducing carbon emissions through the use of clean cookstoves. However, it is difficult and expensive to verify that these stoves are being used, and the reduction in carbon emissions that results from use of clean cookstoves, making it a challenge to apply carbon credits for improved cooking technologies.
