Challenge
ACTi recognized the potential for cloud-based IP video surveillance and realized that cloud technology could help customers avoid the cost of deploying large physical infrastructures and maintaining a team of security professionals. ACTi wanted toseize these opportunities and make cloud-based solutions available to companies of all sizes. The company started developing a cloud-based surveillance and big data analytics system, but ran into technical difficulties. These challenges disrupted the company’s own plans to switch its internal systems from on-premises to a cloud-based platform. It had no option but to find a cloud-service provider since the situation limited growth potential and the organization’s ability to reduce operating costs. Peter Wu, sales director at ACTi Corporation, says the company was dedicating an increasing amount of budget to support a 20 percent increase in data per year. “We wanted a cloud-based solution to reduce our IT overhead, but the priority was to develop our cloud-based IP video surveillance solution to drive our market share worldwide,” he says.
DigiBale, wanted to apply technology know-how and IP from implementations successfully to more agriculture sectors including cotton, forestry, sugarcane and cattle. However, farmers and growers still have worries about the connected technology.

Semios has been offering pest management systems using a network of connected devices including pheromone dispensers, automated traps, soil moisture meters, leaf-wetness monitoring and weather stations. Pheromones are an alternative for pesticides. The challenge was that pheromones are generally more expensive than pesticides. To get the growers to adopt pheromones Semios need to automate their delivery in a way that's going to be more cost-effective. The two key elements of precision agriculture are the provision of information based on data collected from the field and, based on that information, timely, precise action to manage the crop. Semios wanted an IoT solution to better manage the data and control the logistic of pheromone.

Time is essential when it comes to introducing new products to the market. Many clients need to mass manufacture a product in a very short time. Their requirements put Foxconn under substantial pressure.

McDonald’s Save the Sundae Cone campaign had a McDonald’s Sundae Cone on the digital billboard, which was slowly melting in the heat of the city. To “save” the sundae cone, the audience needed to spin a giant fan that would ‘cool’ the sundae cone and ‘un-melt’ it. They did this by spinning a mini-fan, which was accessed through their mobile device’s web browser. At the end, participants were given a voucher on their smartphone to be redeemed at a McDonald’s across the street for a free sundae cone. The realtime network needed to be able to handle hundreds of users simultaneously, and with such a large audience, 100% uptime was vital for the campaign.

The touch screen soda fountain was introduced publicly by The Coca-Cola Company in 2009. The machine Coca-Cola Freestyle needed to feature over 125 different Coca-Cola drink products, and custom flavors while allowing users to select from mixtures of flavors of Coca-Cola branded products which are then individually dispensed.

As the company expanded into new geographies and areas of therapy, existing patient management platform performance was unable to support future business needs. This resulted in end user satisfaction being compromised.

CenturyLink wanted to accelerate design and delivery of IP-based enterprise services, drive all processes from a central catalog for improved service agility and position CenturyLink for SDN/NFV with an open, standards-based solution.

Taking advantage of the fast growth of China and the growing demands in embedded computer systems, Vantron technology was established in 2002 by Silicon Valley professionals and headquartered in Chengdu, China. In addition to readyto-run low-power embedded systems, Vantron also provides assistance in application software development, tailoring its embedded systems based on customers’ requirements, and offering turn-key manufacturing services. With customers in industries such as healthcare, heavy equipment, vehicle tracking and telematics, looking for customized solutions, Vantron saw more and more customers looking for interconnectivity through the cloud so that they could access and interact with their equipment remotely

Solution
ACTi approached Amazon Web Services (AWS) because stakeholders were already aware of the number of successful businesses worldwide using AWS and were familiar with its core services. Still, Wu says he was impressed with the breadth of the offering. “The AWS services service offerings were very strong,” says Wu. “The business cases were strong and each service was well documented, enabling us to make our decision easily.” ACTi successfully migrated its internal systems to the cloud in about two weeks. This included the company website, business intelligence portal, and sales performance data, as well as its customer demo environments. After the successful migration, the company then moved its Cloud NVR, a cloud-based video surveillance solution, and its Market Application Suite (MAS) platform, a big data analytics platform for various vertical applications, to AWS.
DigiBale took the foundational communications system to create and offer a Farm Automation Starter Kit which includes a gateway, three Digi modules, a subscription to Digi Device Cloud and a smartphone application.

Control Center provided a single platform for engineers from Semios to operate on, even though they deal with a lot of carriers around the world, through Europe, the U.S. and Canada. Control Center is a one-stop shop for managing Semios' connected devices. Growers typically purchase Semios devices already equipped with a SIM card. The company uses Control Center to automate the process of provisioning and managing devices deployed in the field by the grower. ABB introduced RobotStudio to Foxconn to limit evaluation time and shorten development time which helps them achieve their strategy goal and satisfy their customers. RobotStudio is a programming tool for many different applications, such as developing new robot programs for welding and folding robots. The ability to share the progress of new RobotStudio versions and PowerPacs makes engineers more efficient and faster.

PubNub was a key infrastructure component in the Save the Sundae campaign and was used in a variety of different use cases. The reliable and low latency realtime data streaming that PubNub offers was essential for the project as a whole. With a tight realtime loop, participants, the app, and the digital billboard were all updated in realtime to mimic real life interaction.

Bsquare has provided consulting, architecture, services and products to develop the dispenser. Significant work and investment have gone into preparing an architectural design for the dispensers, which are flexible, reusable and have interfaces unlike any other fountain dispenser available.

HCL’s workshop led DEFINE engagement was leveraged to identify the gaps in the existing system based stringent AS-IS analysis. In the BUILD phase, HCL developed an end-to-end platform stack connecting patients, physicians, sales, and operations teams
