Challenge

Coca-Cola Refreshments owns and manages Coca-Cola branded refrigerators in retail establishments. Legacy systems were used to locate equipment information by logging onto multiple servers which took up to 8 hours to update information on 30-40 units. The company had no overall visibility into equipment status or maintenance history.

At Atlassian, growth is on a fast track. The company adds more customers every day and consequently needed an easy way to scale JIRA, which is growing by 15,000 support tickets every month. The instance supporting this site was previously hosted in a data center, which created challenges for scaling. “The scale at which we were growing made it difficult to quickly add nodes to the application,” says Brad Bressler, technical account manager for Atlassian. “This is our customer-facing instance, which gathers all the support tickets for our products globally. It’s one of the largest JIRA instances in the world, and growing and maintaining it on premises was getting harder to do.” For example, the support.atlassian.com instance was hosted on a single on-premises server, which the company needed to frequently take down for maintenance.

The company also needed to ensure high availability for JIRA. “This is a mission-critical application, and the number of customers potentially impacted by downtime is huge,” says Neal Riley, principal solutions engineer for Atlassian. “As we grew, we became more concerned about the resiliency and disaster-recovery capabilities of the data center.”

To move into a more scalable, highly available environment, Atlassian created JIRA Data Center, a new enterprise version of the application. However, JIRA Data Center required shared storage. “We needed a shared file system so the individual application nodes could have a shared source of truth for profile information, plug-ins, and attachments,” says Riley. 

Many patients of Arrhythmia are asymptomatic and detection of this disease is difficult. Regular static ECG/EKG may not show Arrhythmias but it will show up only on 24X7 monitoring. Initially monitoring was done by Holter monitoring method which was heavy , cumbersome and with below limitations. Need to spend extra time, money and effort. Delayed diagnosis leaded to critical condition. Very frequent hospital visits. Patient had to be re-admitted due to lack of routine monitoring.

Grain Processing Corporation (GPC), a leading U.S. manufacturer of corn-based products, needed a smarter, more efficient tool to capture, track, notify, and report daily Clean Air Act Title V compliance parameters for numerous emission sources and points at their various production facilities. GPC was using SharePoint to enter over 20 daily logs at two facilities and had to address several questions per log and per shift, throughout a two-shift day. Their system had no reporting or notifications, and there was no consistency between the forms in the system. The EHS manager would spend weeks searching through information to obtain the data needed for GPC’s annual Title V certification report and other reporting needs.

Carrefour Taiwan’s goal is to be completely digital by end of 2018. Out-dated manual methods for analysis and assumptions limited Carrefour’s ability to change the customer experience and were void of real-time decision-making capabilities. Rather than relying solely on sales data, assumptions, and disparate systems, Carrefour Taiwan’s CEO led an initiative to find a connected IoT solution that could give the team the ability to make real-time changes and more informed decisions. Prior to implementing, Carrefour struggled to address their conversion rates and did not have the proper insights into the customer decision-making process nor how to make an immediate impact without losing customer confidence.

- Multiple A/C systems to be monitored through single central monitoring system. - Monitor Status of UPS, generator and switch gear status. Both digital and analog signals. - Monitor building for low voltage conditions and power usage. - Monitor for water leak detections. - Monitor the actual operation of HVAC units to include compressor amperages, refrigerant pressures, fan and filter status. - Implement open protocol Building Automation System for future multi-vendor expansion. - Monitoring and alarming of Space Temperature within a prescribed limits. The Ernst & Young's primary concern was a power loss and high space temperatures in the both the data center and LAN rooms. The UPS or generator would start and all A/C units would cycle on and off with no delay and this would put a drain on the power supply. E&Y sought to implement an integrated system that would not only effectively monitor, but also time out and stage the A/C system restart. They were also looking for a system that allowed for future expansion of the remote alarm monitoring.

Instead of tags, OEM sensor manufacturers and suppliers work with sensors. Different sensor interfaces can readily be included for overall management. OEM sensor manufacturers wanted a single user interface that can interact with different sensors and manufacturers in a beneficial and efficient manner.

In order to revitalize and upgrade its customer service, Telenor Group needed a remote support system. Telenoreksperten, needed to provide immediate, 24/7 access to customers. The support team had to provide assistance for a wide range of technical issues, including Internet access, networking and Wi-Fi setup problems. Telenor needed a remote solution that worked for PCs, Macs and mobile devices.

Solution

Coca-Cola Refreshments found a new thirst for Business Process Management (BPM) with this process automation project. The company gains new visibility in equipment use. Associates can use a wireless scanner to log up to 60 units at a time. Then they go to a desktop application to assign actions from a standard list. Every piece of equipment goes through a complete cycle of checks, and data is recorded to create a single record on the equipment’s life cycle.

 

Atlassian also needed to respond to customers wanting to run JIRA on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud. “We initially looked at several vendors, but AWS was the clear leader,” Bressler says. “We needed automatic scaling and reliability, and AWS offered us that.” The company migrated JIRA Data Center to the AWS Cloud, running all application nodes on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instances. Atlassian takes advantage of Auto Scaling groups to enable automatic scaling of both applications, and uses Elastic Load Balancing to redirect application traffic to Amazon EC2 instances for consistent performance.

Setting up of a state-of-the-art Cardiac Device Remote Monitoring Center to monitor patient data related to Arrhythmias.

In order to simplify and standardize data collection and reporting, GPC selected Locus’ configurable Platform software solution. Locus Platform was selected based on its ability to be quickly configured to match existing business processes across operating facilities and easily implement the changes in permit recordkeeping requirements over time. A dedicated project team at Locus and GPC identified improvements that could be made in Locus Platform from GPC’s existing internal “home-built” system that was not designed to meet the needs of demanding, ever-changing environmental compliance reporting. The collaborative team developed a comprehensive set of requirements that helped fast-track the project to a timely deployment that met or exceeded the GPC user community’s expectations. Within six months, the new system was in daily use, and adoption by the remaining facility locations followed soon after.

Today with new digital technologies, retailers can now develop and deploy in-store analytics to gather a deeper understanding of customer behaviors and optimize in real-time to improve store efficiencies and customer experiences. Carrefour Taiwan partnered in a cooperative effort with Sirqul on a smart retail implementation to transform into a more immersive, connected experience for both customers and staff. New experiences were enabled and centered around discovering the customer journey and leveraging devices with artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms to alter in-store experiences in real-time. Measuring behavior in the physical world and acting on this data enables retailers to make an impact on the customer journey and experience a sales lift. This new digital technology called Edysen, enables retailers to track shopper behavior (without an app) on an aggregate and anonymous level in order to get a better understanding on how to attract, engage, and retain customers. Sirqul’s patented Edysen devices blend into the environment and detect WiFi and BTLE pings from phones. The data captured is specific to the device and is non-personally identifiable. The technology then extracts data and in real-time to kick-off an event or series of events including triggers, alerts, automation, promotions, alter digital signage, and more.

Implementation of Circon’s Integrated Building Automation System provides integrated monitoring of HVAC. Front-end workstation programmed with Visual Integrator provides centralized management to monitor and alarms. LonWorks based technology provides a solid platform for future expansion. Alarms monitoring and remote access though the SMC’s. Install Circon controllers in each HVAC unit, UPS, switchgear, and generator unit with both puck & rope type leak detection below raised floors. Each HVAC system has included in it sensors for space temperature, high and low refrigerant pressures, compressor amperages, fan status, filter status, common trouble and water detection. All generator controllers monitor status and run time, all UPS controllers monitor status and battery condition. All switch gear controllers monitor switch position and incoming voltage. HVAC alarms are set up to dial out to a chosen mechanical contractor with 24-hour service and Enertech’s Command Center. All alarms are also routed directly to E&Y command center though the Lon Network. The dial out and remote dial in access gives redundancy to the system. All Controllers and SMC have their own backup UPS device to insure alarm routing incase of power failure. Develop a program to time delay all data HVAC equipment off and pack on when ever power is interrupted to the center. Monitor pump status with automatic lead/lag and emergency switch over.

AEMS (Adroit Environmental Monitoring System) is a framework that integrates SCADA, Alarm Management & Reporting, and Data Warehousing Intelligence into a unified application designed for ease of configuration from a single user interface. AEMS provides a common ‘look and feel’ for system users, and is designed to allow OEM suppliers and sensor manufacturers to implement their own ‘plugins’ which work within the framework.

The solution captured visits, repeat visitors, movement, heatmaps, customer paths, and dwell time by area. A dedicated project team at Locus and GPC identified improvements that could be made in Locus Platform from GPC’s existing internal “home-built” system that was not designed to meet the needs of demanding, ever-changing environmental compliance reporting. The collaborative team developed a comprehensive set of requirements that helped fast-track the project to a timely deployment that met or exceeded the GPC user community’s expectations. Within six months, the new system was in daily use, and adoption by the remaining facility locations followed soon after.

Today with new digital technologies, retailers can now develop and deploy in-store analytics to gather a deeper understanding of customer behaviors and optimize in real-time to improve store efficiencies and customer experiences. Carrefour Taiwan partnered in a cooperative effort with Sirqul on a smart retail implementation to transform into a more immersive, connected experience for both customers and staff. New experiences were enabled and centered around discovering the customer journey and leveraging devices with artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms to alter in-store experiences in real-time. Measuring behavior in the physical world and acting on this data enables retailers to make an impact on the customer journey and experience a sales lift. This new digital technology called Edysen, enables retailers to track shopper behavior (without an app) on an aggregate and anonymous level in order to get a better understanding on how to attract, engage, and retain customers. Sirqul’s patented Edysen devices blend into the environment and detect WiFi and BTLE pings from phones. The data captured is specific to the device and is non-personally identifiable. The technology then extracts data and in real-time to kick-off an event or series of events including triggers, alerts, automation, promotions, alter digital signage, and more.

Implementation of Circon’s Integrated Building Automation System provides integrated monitoring of HVAC. Front-end workstation programmed with Visual Integrator provides centralized management to monitor and alarms. LonWorks based technology provides a solid platform for future expansion. Alarms monitoring and remote access though the SMC’s. Install Circon controllers in each HVAC unit, UPS, switchgear, and generator unit with both puck & rope type leak detection below raised floors. Each HVAC system has included in it sensors for space temperature, high and low refrigerant pressures, compressor amperages, fan status, filter status, common trouble and water detection. All generator controllers monitor status and run time, all UPS controllers monitor status and battery condition. All switch gear controllers monitor switch position and incoming voltage. HVAC alarms are set up to dial out to a chosen mechanical contractor with 24-hour service and Enertech’s Command Center. All alarms are also routed directly to E&Y command center though the Lon Network. The dial out and remote dial in access gives redundancy to the system. All Controllers and SMC have their own backup UPS device to insure alarm routing incase of power failure. Develop a program to time delay all data HVAC equipment off and pack on when ever power is interrupted to the center. Monitor pump status with automatic lead/lag and emergency switch over.

Leveraging advanced location-aware Edysen devices and artificial intelligence, Sirqul provided daily insights and KPIs into store performance that helped to drive change and make an impact on their stores. The solution captured visits, repeat visitors, movement, heatmaps, customer paths, and dwell time by area. Analyzing traffic behaviors, Sirqul provided insights into anomalies that needed investigation and action. Notifications and alerts were created to send alerts to associates when a customer needed help or assistance. A closed loop temperature monitoring system was also put in place to monitor the journey from transport to in-store, ensuring freshness, quality of goods, and integrity of services delivered to customers. Operational triggers in place also caught a freezer’s temperature steadily decreasing due to an open door and immediately fired off a notification to a store associate to close.
