Challenge
Managing remote power generation sites has its own particular challenges, not least in terms of the efficient monitoring of operations. Given the nature of its power sources, many of the company’s power generation sites are located in remote and difficult terrain. This can present challenges in terms of the monitoring and control of remote locations.
• Liaoyuan's demands for building a high-quality smart city, covering multiple sectors, including city management, emergency command, public security, and health care. • Unable to connect different functional sectors for lack of a unified information system; without IoT, city management is restricted to manual intervention.
• The non-smart legacy surveillance platform lacks video processing capability, resulting in unclear images and low work efficiency • The existing information systems are isolated, making it difficult to centrally manage video surveillance products and achieve multi-platform interconnection and collaboration. As a result, intelligent analysis of massive data and effective data mining are impeded.
The 215,000 street lights in Los Angeles include more than 400 different styles distributed across 7,500 miles of roadway. Maintenance has traditionally depended on crews who scout the streets at night to identify outages— that, and calls from citizens. The bureau handles 40,000 such calls per year. They needed to find new technology that could improve customer service, make people feel safer, and create a more livable city.
The Central Advanced Research and Engineering Institute at Hyundai Motor Company develops future mobility technologies. Rather than provide conventional vehicle products to customers, this research center creates new mobility devices with a wide range of speeds for a variety of people, including the elderly and the disabled. As our society ages, there is a greater need for systems that can aid mobility. Thus, we are developing wearable exoskeleton robots with NI embedded controllers for the elderly and patients with spinal cord injuries to use. Key Challenge Developing a system that can handle complex control algorithms to capture data remotely from various sensors simultaneously and perform real-time control of multiple actuators for a wearable robotics device for walking assistance.
Solavei offers $49 unlimited voice, text, and data mobile service on a nationwide 4G network. Solavei enables members to connect, share and capitalize on the power of social networks through its platform. Solavei launched with a mission to make commerce less expensive and even profitable by empowering individuals to earn income on the products and services they enjoy and use every day. Solavei is the first mobile service that pays people back for adding new members. The company partnered with GlobalLogic to build this groundbreaking idea from concept into a full-fledged working solution. Currently, GlobalLogic owns the engineering arm and partners with Solavei to drive the platform's evolution.
Canon wanted to build an infrastructure to enable IoT system to process large amounts of data received from more than 1 million multifunction printers, and support 2x anticipated growth in the number of printers connected to the IoT, and ensure migration to the IoT platform to minimize disruption to global office-products business operations, and deploy a easy-to-manage disaster recovery system to reduce the switchover time in the IoT environment.
While on-site in Pavlodar, Kazakhstan, the DAQRI team of Business Development and Solutions Architecture personnel worked closely with KSP Steel’s production leadership to understand the steel production process, operational challenges, and worker pain points.
Designed to alert drivers when schoolchildren are present, especially in low-visibility conditions, school-zone flasher signals are typically updated manually at each school. The switching is based on the school calendar and manually changed when an unexpected early dismissal occurs, as in the case of a weather-event altering the normal schedule. The process to reprogram the flashers requires a significant effort by school district personnel to implement due to the large number of warning flashers installed across an entire school district.
Solution
Slovenian renewables producer Gorenjske Elektrarne has resolved these challenges using a novel and technologically advanced IoT solution which combines COPA-DATA’s software zenon with Microsoft’s Azure cloud services.
• Deploy a comprehensive analysis and command platform to interconnect applications and eradicate information silos • Deploy application systems, including Smart City management platform, Digital City management platform, Emergency Command platform, Smart Hospital, and Safe City • Dynamically allocate resources based on IoT and cloud computing
• Build the safest city service cloud based on the unified safest city platform • Interconnect with the Police Geographic Information System (PGIS) to implement a wide assortment of smart services, including preventive maintenance of video, behavior analysis, facial recognition, video summary, quick search, image sharpening, and case investigation analysis
After piloting systems from several different managers, street lighting directory Ed Ebrahimian selected Philips CityTouch, “the best product at the lowest price.” CityTouch capabilities that helped decide Ebrahimian included remote monitoring, automatic notification of outages and other events, easy installation and simple commissioning, accurate lighting asset information, integration with the bureau’s existing management systems, and futureproofing through software as a service delivery. Technology Deployed: • CityTouch software • CityTouch connector node
Using the LabVIEW RIO platform, including a CompactRIO embedded system and a real-time controller with an FPGA control architecture provided by Single-Board RIO, to acquire data from various sensors and control peripheral units, high-speed communication devices, and actuators; and using LabVIEW software to acquire reliable data by conducting real-time analysis and applying various robot control algorithms to dramatically reduce development time.
GlobalLogic designed and developed the entire platform from concept to go-live, delivering the first version of the product on schedule in just nine months.

Employing DAQRI SMART HELMET™ and visual markers at process-observation points, KSP Steel engineers could access two new capabilities. 1. Just-in-place AR data visualization: Workers could safely access necessary information at the point of need, without wasted travel time or an interruption of situational awareness. 2. Portable Process Data: Workers can select an AR data visualization for a given observation point and pin it to their AR display, independent of the unique marker. This decouples the dependence on installed physical infrastructure and allows the user to safely take information with them, providing exponential improvements in process flexibility.
RTC Manufacturing, a provider of school zone safety equipment, utilised the power of an IoT platform and network capabilities to provide remote connectivity to schoolzone warning flashers for enhanced student safety. The IoT solution enables remote, two-way communications between the school district’s central traffic office and an embedded electronic device in the flasher signal signs. In the event of an early dismissal, the flasher schedule can be changed very efficiently across the entire school district with one simple update. This improvement saves a significant amount of time and frees administration personnel to assist students as they enter and exit the school safely RTC integrated the secure cellular network, as well as its embedded cellular module, allowing each flasher panel to communicate wirelessly. Advanced IoT platform capabilities allows the schools to receive text or email alerts informing them when a bulb burns out or when the battery is failing. These real-time updates enable technicians to be dispatched for repair before any students or administrators are put at risk.
