Challenge

At any given time, the textile company’s manufacturing facility has up to 2,000 textile carts in use. These carts are pushed from room to room, carrying materials or semi-finished products. Previously, a paper with a hand-written description was attached to each cart. This traditional method of processing made product tracking extremely difficult. Additionally, making sure that every cart of materials or semi-finished products went to its correct processing work station was also a problem. Therefore, the company desired an intelligent solution for tracking assets at their factories. They also wanted a solution that would help them collect process data so they could improve their manufacturing efficiency.

Securitas wanted to give new and existing customers a proposition that was unlike anything they had offered before, a security system that broke the traditional mould but took advantage of the monitoring infrastructure that was already in place, including the manned response capabilities and alarm receiving centres.

1) Deliver a connected digital product system to protect and increase the differentiated value of Haemonetics blood and plasma solutions. 2) Improve patient outcomes by increasing the efficiency of blood supply flows. 3) Navigate and satisfy a complex web of global regulatory compliance requirements. 4) Reduce costly and labor-intensive maintenance procedures.

To implement air quality monitoring of Ozone / O3, VOCs, Nitrogen Oxides / NO2, Dust Particulates, PM1, PM2.5, PM10.

Russia offers a unique environment for IoT connectivity compared to densely populated European countries, because of the sheer size of the Russian Federation and its sparsely-populated or empty areas where there is no GSM mobile network coverage – although these areas can still be home to industries such as mining, oil & gas production or logging. In addition, there is a specific requirement to store and process all data within Russian borders to comply with national data protection regulations.

Before working with Ayla Networks, Ozner was already using cloud connectivity to identify and solve water-filtration system malfunctions as well as to monitor filter cartridges for replacements.

But, in June 2015, Ozner executives talked with Ayla about how the company might further improve its water systems with IoT technology. They liked what they heard from Ayla, but the executives needed to be sure that Ayla’s Agile IoT Platform provided the security and reliability Ozner required.

The company manufactures packaging films on made to order or configure to order basis. Every order has a different set of requirements from the product characteristics perspective and hence requires machine’s settings to be adjusted accordingly. If the film quality does not meet the required standards, the degraded quality impacts customer delivery causes customer dissatisfaction and results in lower margins. The biggest challenge was to identify the real root cause and devise a remedy for that.

Western Digital R&D teams continuously run testing cycles, as a part of the organization’s mission to deliver innovative products to a wide variety of customers. DevTest projects require setting up and customizing physical servers; these are not only resource intensive tasks, but also time-consuming and often result in a slow time-to-market. Scaling up and out adds another layer of complexity, especially given the difficulty of managing various hardware configurations.

In view of growing competition, Gämmerler had a strong need to remain competitive via process optimization, reliability and gentle handling of printed products, even at highest press speeds. In addition, a digitalization initiative also included developing a key differentiation via data-driven services offers.

Solution

Under Advantech’s WISE-PaaS Alliance program, the textile company deployed a cart tracking system at their facility. RFID tags were attached to each cart, and an RFID reader antenna was attached to every machine or piece of equipment. Now when a cart approaches, the RFID reader gets the ID of this cart from its tag, and transmits the data to an ARK-1123 data gateway. Using its WISE-PaaS/RMM remote data and device monitoring and management software, the gateway ensures data transmission and device security. WISE-PaaS also provided RESTful APIs for easy integration with MES to enabled electronic production records. And Microsoft Azure provides for IoT big data computing and analytics. Most importantly, WISE-PaaS offers easy access across programming platforms and can be integrated with existing management solutions to improve products/services and business intelligence.

The premise for the security system was that it should be extremely user friendly and accessible to a diverse target market. For this reason the dedicated gateway incorporates GPRS and broadband connectivity, making it possible for those without a fixed broadband connection to benefit from a monitored alarm.

Built on Bright Wolf’s Strandz platform and leveraging Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud storage, Haemonetics won IoT Evolution App of the Year in 2015. Through their partnership with Bright Wolf, Haemonetics released HaemoCloud, connecting the blood supply chain from donation to transfusion. The new system works directly with their existing HaemoCommunicator suite – connecting all Haemonetics sensors and devices in order to format and transfer device information, as well as collect and manage operational data, and send it to the AWS cloud. HaemoCloud also integrates with hospital and other institutional information systems to store and share information with relevant hospital and IT staff, creating a seamless data experience for customers. Data collected in HaemoCloud will allow Haemonetics to build preventative maintenance algorithms and provide customers industry-leading device performance. The system’s flexible architecture also enables Haemonetics to take advantage of new market opportunities and grow with new offerings from Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the future.

Blue Tomorrow deployed Valarm air quality monitoring units in the Central Valley in California near Kern County. These boxes integrated Industrial IoT hardware from all over the world to effectively measure air quality sensor factors like: • Dust and Particulate Matter, PM1, PM2.5, PM10 • Ozone a.k.a. O3 • NO2 a.k.a. Nitrogen Dioxide • Volatile Organic Compounds a.k.a. VOCs Examples of VOCs were things like alcohols, aldehydes, aliphatic hydro-carbons, amines, aromatic hydro-carbons (e.g., gasoline vapors), carbon oxides, methane, LPG, ketones, and organic acids. These solar powered units sent real-time air quality sensor measurements to Tools.Valarm.net using this key sensor hardware from Shop.Valarm.net: • GSM 3G Sensor Hubs • TTL Serial Sensor Adapters • Meteo Sensors – Temperature, Humidity, and Pressure • SPI Serial Sensor Adapters

Searching for an IoT communication solution that is easy to deploy, offers long -orange coverage and the lowest total cost of ownership, ERTH was quick to recognize the benefits of LoRaWAN, and chose to work with Actility, based on the company’s existing track record in powering over half of all the national scale LPWA networks deployed by operators globally. “The agreement signed between ER-Telecom Holding and Actility is an important step in building a federal IoT coverage”, says Andrey Kuzyaev, the President of ER-Telecom Holding.

Ozner is leveraging Ayla’s IoT cloud platform to better manage and maintain its connected filtration systems and to help expand its sales into international markets.

The Ayla Insights business intelligence and analytics tool was employed to obtain real-world customer data from the Ozner Water connected smart-filtration systems in use. The customer data collected through Ayla insights included additional maintenance and service checkpoints from the deployed systems.

Meanwhile, Ayla engineers built Ozner a mobile app that lets Chinese customers remotely control their own filtration systems using popular social networks, such as Weixin (aka WeChat).

In the ‘packaging film’ manufacturing process, the films are finally wound downstream on a ‘winder’ machine and slit to order on a ‘slitting’ machine. The solution demanded an ability to process historical machine data and establish requiredcorrelation between machine settings and production output. The deployed solution helped collect historical performance data. It gave the quality team the ability to monitor critical machine settings parameters, ascertain that they are in statistical control, and eventually correlate the process and machine data with different types of quality failures. The solution (Datonis MInt) also helped to identify critical to quality parameters from thirty parameters to two (pressure and tension) using correlation analytics. A prescriptive quality model was built based on the collected data to recommend the machine settings for the product configuration for every new order. This helped reduce quality degradation and achieve predictable quality.
