In the upcoming years, we believe that interest in distributed ledgers will continue to grow around the globe.

In Luxembourg, attention on the technology has surged in recent months, with digital players involved in DLT being increasingly attracted to Luxembourg.

All industries combined, public institutions and private companies alike, are shifting together towards automating their internal and external processes. This phenomenon is triggering a digital convergence between market participants and will bring new opportunities for collaboration.

New modes of transactions and user interactions for current products and services are emerging. We believe that industries should now internally improve their skills and competencies in order to be ready when the technology will reach its full maturity.

 

Russia offers a unique environment for IoT connectivity compared to densely populated European countries, because of the sheer size of the Russian Federation and its sparsely-populated or empty areas where there is no GSM mobile network coverage – although these areas can still be home to industries such as mining, oil & gas production or logging. In addition, there is a specific requirement to store and process all data within Russian borders to comply with national data protection regulations.

Ofo Bike sharing company wanted to improve its user experience by providing seamless network connectivity to its users where they can locate bikes and pedal away quickly exactly when and where they need one, but challenge is to avoid frustration if user finds difficulties in finding bikes, unlocking the bikes and making payments

N.V. Elmar had initiated a project to implement a smart grid network across the entire island. The enhanced grid would streamline electricity distribution processes and provide N.V. Elmar’s customers with access to usage data which would result in more efficient use of power and services. Although the initial network deployment was designed for smart electric meters, N.V. Elmar wanted to have the ability to scale the network to add additional applications. Because this was essentially a greenfield project, the deployment process would start with a pilot program where various technologies would be evaluated. Cost, network longevity, coverage and reliability were all factors in the selection process.

The client had previously deployed a one-meter-per-store monitoring program. Given the manner in which energy consumption changes with external temperature, hour of the day, day of week and month of year, a single meter solution lacked the ability to detect the difference between a true problem and a changing store environment. Most importantly, a single meter solution could never identify root cause of energy consumption changes. This approach never reduced the number of truck-rolls or man-hours required to find and resolve issues.

The assumption of trust which accompanied the early days of the internet is gone and replaced by privacy and security concerns accompanied with attitudes to risk which rise and fall across different sector and application scenarios. IoT covers a diverse range of services and products deployed in both managed and unmanaged use-cases with varying network topologies which bring different security challenges and new potential for attack.

Emerson wanted to provide a connected environmental analyzer to their customers. They wanted to leverage IoT technologies to provide a software solution that was easy to use, real-time and centralized. Compliance with pollution control board guidelines and the ability to remotely calibrate and troubleshoot these devices was the primary objective. Searching for an IoT communication solution that is easy to deploy, offers long -orange coverage and the lowest total cost of ownership, ERTH was quick to recognize the benefits of LoRaWAN, and chose to work with Actility, based on the company’s existing track record in powering over half of all the national scale LPWA networks deployed by operators globally. “The agreement signed between ER-Telecom Holding and Actility is an important step in building a federal IoT coverage”, says Andrey Kuzyaev, the President of ER-Telecom Holding.

Huawei’s IoT solution, which includes smart chips, networking, and an IoT platform helped Ofo developed an IoT smart lock based on NB-IoT technology. This has enhanced and optimized life-cycle management for locks, while the sensors on the locks facilitate rapid maintenance, and boost marketing and value-added services.

After evaluating an array of competing technologies, N.V. Elmar selected Ingenu to implement its RPMA (Random Phase Multiple Access) network smart city solution. The initial roll-out took place in late 2013, with just 50 smart electric meters. However, after determining that the robust, scalable and secure network could expand without additional network investment, N.V. Elmar began to implement a myriad of additional applications. In late 2014, the utility company added distribution line monitors and smart streetlights to the RPMA network, totaling over 4,000 end points. The street lights were supplied by Ingenu partner, LED Roadway Lighting (LRL) which integrated RPMA technology into its NXT Luminaire street light solution. LRL has supplied more than 1,800 luminaires to N.V. Elmar, allowing street lights to be controlled and monitored using the same network as other smart grid devices, reducing both energy and maintenance costs.

Wind River is now currently developing technology for Monday Motorbikes, an electric, Cloud-­connected motorbike that connects with smartphones. Their IoT platform brings the performance, security, real-­time management, and analytical capabilities necessary for extracting, combining, and analyzing device information to support real-­time decisions and systems controls. Wind River Helix helps to manage diverse devices and translate all kinds of data for travel across networks and into analytical cloud systems, where businesses and other organisations can gain insights for operational efficiencies and transformative improvements. Functions of the Cloud-­connected motorbike includes end-­to-­edge connectivity, device manage and software­ / firmware-on-the-­air. Motorbikes are connected at 28 separate data points for R&D, battery optimization, predictive maintenance and software/firmware updates. There are 2 operating nodes from the cloud, namely economy and sport modes, with a software defining the speed limits. To prevent theft, geofencing is created to shut down outside a geographical limit. IoT security in embedded devices: • Meets specs for IEC 61508 and IEC 62304 • “Designed-in” security into embedded devices w/ Wind River Operating systems • Design the concept of lifecycle security into devices -­ prevent unsecured connectivity • Wind River is working with Auto Industry to secure devices remotely (no need to bring back into the station to update) Data on battery’s performance is stored in the cloud so that users can see the bike’s battery life regardless of location. Specially­ designed batteries are structured such that cells can be replaced easily whenever it loses efficiency, hence saving the need of disposing the battery, which results in negative environmental impacts.

The client deployed OutSmart’s wire-level monitoring and analytics program to gain comprehensive visibility into their stores’ energy consumption patterns With the OutSmart system they pinpointed the exact: -Location of the problem. -Time the problem occurred. -Cost of the problem condition.

Only Arkessa staff are authorised to provision your M2M/IoT connections and it’s important that during the provisioning process only the services required for the solution are applied to the subscriptions / SIMs, therefore reducing the risk of unintended or malicious use.

SenseGrow team worked with their Application Partner, LogicLadderTM, to understand the requirements related to all the legacy hardware. Leveraging the unique architecture of ioEYE, SenseGrow supported these legacy devices on their Cloud Platform, thereby making them plug-n-play. This enabled LogicLadder to focus on Emerson’s business requirements, without spending time or energy on the underlying core IoT infrastructure. LogicLadder used ioEYE to build a custom white-labeled solution for Emerson. Using ioEYE‘s drivers-on-the-cloud technology, SenseGrow provided support for all the devices that needed to be in the solution. Ofo a Beijing based bike sharing company is one of china's top bike rental company who provides users with mobile application to locate bikes using GPS positioning system where customer scans QR code on bike to unlock it. Ofo has operations across many major cities of china and plans to operate internationally.

Established in 1950, N.V. Elmar (Naamloze Vennootschap Electriciteit-Maatschappij is the sole provider of electricity to the island of Aruba. It sources its power from WEB Aruba N.V. as well as from solar sources. N.V. Elmar serves over 42,000 residential and commercial customers on the island, providing smart metering, distribution automation, smart street lighting, water monitoring and other smart city services.

Monday Motorbikes builds state-of-the-art motorcycles that are connected to the cloud. Monday Motorbikes offers the latest and highest density cells on the market within standard battery configuration. Their flagship model, the M-1, allows the user to nimbly navigate the city without the need for registration and insurance, or even a license. By limiting power output through software, the M-1 falls under the federal electric bicycle regulations of the U.S.A and most states in their Economy mode.

A leading regional supermarket chain with more than 800 stores located across the Northeastern US. This customer has progressive targets in place which include both energy efficiency and renewable energy initiatives. This customer is a strong believer in the use of data and analytics to identify opportunities for improvement in their supermarkets portfolio.

Generally appilicable for security authentication for IoT platforms. 

Emerson Process Management is a Fortune 500 corporation headquartered in Missouri, United States. Emerson manufactures products and provides engineering services for a wide range of industrial and consumer markets. Emerson’s goal with this project was to make their environmental analyzers smart and connected. These analyzers are then deployed for monitoring industrial stack emissions and wastewater at Emerson’s customer sites.

The addition of oil pressure monitoring enables the company to track oil pressure levels in its transformers, an application that was proposed and quickly deployed within a matter of months.

The aggregate annual savings potential represented by this data was over 300% of the client’s target for the OutSmart program, and the program demonstrated a payback of around one year.

Their flagship model, the M-1, allows the user to nimbly navigate the city without the need for registration and insurance, or even a license. By limiting power output through software, the M-1 falls under the federal electric bicycle regulations of the U.S.A and most states in their Economy mode.
