Challenge

Time is essential when it comes to introducing new products to the market. Many clients need to mass manufacture a product in a very short time. Their requirements put Foxconn under substantial pressure.

DigiBale, wanted to apply technology know-how and IP from implementations successfully to more agriculture sectors including cotton, forestry, sugarcane and cattle. However, farmers and growers still have worries about the connected technology.
The touch screen soda fountain was introduced publicly by The Coca-Cola Company in 2009. The machine Coca-Cola Freestyle needed to feature over 125 different Coca-Cola drink products, and custom flavors while allowing users to select from mixtures of flavors of Coca-Cola branded products which are then individually dispensed.

Edge computing via local Edge controllers allows uniterrupted, high speed collection, filtering and processing of real time data line side. Initial fast reactions can be initiated with the full data sets also being sent to associated cloud systems for further analysis. This processing at two layers respects the data integrity but allows the collected data to be processed as live and historical instances. The challenge is how to collect the data from diverse sources without interrupting the existing processes but also being able to span "brown field" systems where there may not even be any existing communication or data capture functions. 

1) Deliver a connected digital product system to protect and increase the differentiated value of Haemonetics blood and plasma solutions. 2) Improve patient outcomes by increasing the efficiency of blood supply flows. 3) Navigate and satisfy a complex web of global regulatory compliance requirements. 4) Reduce costly and labor-intensive maintenance procedures.

As a power supplier, Enerwhere needed to make sure that their equipment is operational 24/7 and that power can be supplied at all times. Enerwhere needed to know how to do continual maintenance and know how much power is consumed by each customer.

Postal mail and package delivery company wanted to replace legacy yard management system, increase inbound and outbound yard velocity, improve priority parcel delivery time and accuracy, reduce workload and overtime, reduce driver detention and measure performance and utilization of yard resources.

As the main British Columbia electric distributor, BC Hydro provides 1.9 million residential, commercial, and industrial customers with energy. Planetary Resources expects that the Arkyd spacecraft will eventually be mass-produced at cost significantly lower than current spacecraft, so weight must be minimized to the greatest extent possible.

Solution

ABB introduced RobotStudio to Foxconn to limit evaluation time and shorten development time which helps them achieve their strategy goal and satisfy their customers. RobotStudio is a programming tool for many different applications, such as developing new robot programs for welding and folding robots. The ability to share the progress of new RobotStudio versions and PowerPacs makes engineers more efficient and faster.

DigiBale took the foundational communications system to create and offer a Farm Automation Starter Kit which includes a gateway, three Digi modules, a subscription to Digi Device Cloud and a smartphone application.
Bsquare has provided consulting, architecture, services and products to develop the dispenser. Significant work and investment have gone into preparing an architectural design for the dispensers, which are flexible, reusable and have interfaces unlike any other fountain dispenser available.

Built on Bright Wolf’s Strandz platform and leveraging Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud storage, Haemonetics won IoT Evolution App of the Year in 2015. Through their partnership with Bright Wolf, Haemonetics released HaemoCloud, connecting the blood supply chain from donation to transfusion. The new system works directly with their existing HaemoCommunicator suite – connecting all Haemonetics sensors and devices in order to format and transfer device information, as well as collect and manage operational data, and send it to the AWS cloud. HaemoCloud also integrates with hospital and other institutional information systems to store and share information with relevant hospital and IT staff, creating a seamless data experience for customers. Data collected in HaemoCloud will allow Haemonetics to build preventative maintenance algorithms and provide customers industry-leading device performance. The system’s flexible architecture also enables Haemonetics to take advantage of new market opportunities and grow with new offerings from Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the future.

Hybrid solar power systems use Netbiter for remote monitoring and control. Netbiter gateways connect to the control panels of the solar/diesel systems and send data to a cloud-based control system.
