With the flood of data and numerous versions of software in the production environment of a firm, much time and effort is spent by workers searching, guessing or asking questions in order to solve issues.
Maintenance systems make modern aircraft fault-tolerant. They provide a remote diagnosis of existing faults and capabilities. But why aren’t vehicles packed with such descriptive analytics maintenance? That is exactly what we wondered right before coming up with the idea of Car Maintenance. Our first motive to experiment with Car Maintenance application was safety considerations for our vehicles, and the second - exercising our skills in the Internet of Things (IoT) software development.
The essence of Car Maintenance is instant data collecting, data analysis and data gathering about the current condition of the vehicle to prevent it from breaking down. Descriptive analytics enable us to create a summary of historical data related to a vehicle's condition. The collected data could be used further for sharing with a mechanic. The analytical approach helps a repair master make smarter decisions, solve problems and improve outcomes.
We track speed, location, engine rotation, the temperature of the important components of the car and dozens of other parameters that are supported by the vehicle. We collect data on a server, and it is also sent to a web application where you can review both the current condition of the connected car and the historical data.
Schneider Electric develops charging terminals for Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS) throughout the test territory. In order to meet the timeline required for the project, as well as include the remote monitoring and control necessary to manage charging terminals dispersed through 51 towns and five counties, Schneider Electric turned to Sierra Wireless to assist in a quick development of a service and maintenance connected electric charging terminal.
Smart energy and next generation buildings are one of FabCity’s key topics and the Zenodys team was invited there to provide a microgrid demand response power management solution.
Next generation buildings are built with a purpose to be energy sustainable and include power-generation capabilities, windmills, solar panels, self-sufficient units, etc. These buildings can generate their own power. But on cloudy or windless days green energy is not always available. To compensate for this, a microgrid also features a battery that stores surplus energy and provides backup power when needed.

One of the main challenges was that the company required a centralized data warehouse for unified reporting and analytical requirements. The data was not consolidated properly and its structure was not suitable for user requirements. Besides, reporting process was extremely slow. Individual systems had expanded to the point that information was no longer stored and presented in the centralized manner that could facilitate efficient organizational decisions across the company as a whole.
It was also becoming obvious that a data warehouse should better enable internal and external user access to data and increase the performance of analysis and reporting activities. To evolve its offering from simple data feeds to self-service BI, the company needed a new robust platform that could enable users come out of excel mindset and could take them to exploratory mode for better and faster decision making. The objective was to integrate the line of business applications (On-Premise and SAAS).
As vending machine technology has evolved, it has become more challenging, less reliable and costly to connect phone lines to vending machines and collect data via a modem. Manual equipment maintenance is very costly, slow and labor intensive.
The Versiondog data management system allows users to create documented versions of changes and to easily keep track of all project data using systematic life-cycle management. Schneider Electric’s electric vehicle charging terminal is a comprehensive hardware and software solution connected by AirVantage Smart Automation, a machine-to-machine (M2M) Platform as a Service (PaaS) offering that accelerates development and significantly reduces costs associated with deploying and operating M2M industrial control applications.
Three companies – Zown, Mpare and Zenodys – partnered together to design a reliable microgrid solution. Zown provided on-site connectivity, Mpare took care of power measurement and Zenodys supplied microgrid management logic.
Our role is to gather and process measurements, develop efficient demand response strategies and visualize microgrid dynamics via an easy-to-understand web interface.
The solution is based on the Zenodys visual IoT platform that handles most of the tasks without any programming needed:
• ZenoConnect provides connectivity of various smart energy vendors (houses, windmills, PV panels, batteries, etc.) and connects them to the microgrid. It can also be easily integrated with Mpare and HelloData services.
• ZenoVisual provides demand response logic and delivery of different strategies.
• ZenoExperience is used for data delivery and visualization. A fine-tuned web visual interface provides easy-to-understand information for the end user.
• Zenobox physically connects all the equipment and services and provides a runtime environment. In this case we chose the Linux based Raspberry PI system but for a production-ready environment we would use more robust industrial gateways.
The solution is fully independent and can run off-line, but for demonstration purposes we also enabled remote solution delivery and Docker based services deployments.
Fleet managers at Airporter are now using data from Masternaut Connect, including the eco-Drive and TACHOfresh modules, to inform passengers of where vehicles are at a particular time, track and improve driver behaviour, and reduce fuel costs across the fleet.
Transporting 100,000 passengers each year with its fleet of 17 Mercedes Executive mini coaches, accurate vehicle tracking is essential to Airporter’s service. Masternaut Connect will ensure that real-time vehicle information can be correctly relayed to customers and ensure they transfer from airport-to-airport on time.
Airporter prides itself on high safety and compliance standards, ensuring drivers are correctly trained to be safe and that regular vehicle safety inspections are completed. Masternaut’s ecoDrive module will allow Airporter to see that if its training is successful and where improvements may need to be made in driver behaviour, all the while reducing fuel consumption and costs.
TACHOfresh provides Airporter with tachograph management that stores, archives and protects instantly-available data, and is mobile compatible. TACHOfresh also gives the ability for the user to remotely download all tachograph and driver data, and provides next-generation digital analysis, helping Airporter remain compliant with government regulations.
With the help of Jasper's Control Center, telematics has been enabled for everything from basic fleet management and logging, all the way up to dashboarding, operator qualifications and metrics, quality metrics, as well as process improvement. This has enabled us to deliver better communication, efficiencies and productivity to farmers around the world.

The solution for the FabCity was delivered fast and they managed to overcome Internet of Things and smart energy challenges, hardware interoperability, infrastructure gap between the edge and cloud, and on-the-edge challenges – in a really short time.
