Challenge
Vipoll aims to consolidate its market position and break into new markets not only in Slovenia but also internationally. A brewing customer needed to access the entire data from a production line. It was necessary to visualize the whole line and also to collect all its data, record that data transparently and make the data available to business users. The main focus was to grab data according to Weihenstephan standards. The Weihenstephan standards define which production data should be recorded at a filling plant and specifies how that data should be transferred.
Fuel delivery has always had some built-in inefficiency. Like most fuel and lubricant distributors, Retif Oil & Fuel followed a keep full model when restocking fuel tanks and was spending too much money topping off customer fuel tanks and making emergency deliveries. Without an accurate view of customer fuel stocks it was impossible to determine who needed fuel or how much they actually needed.

Vodafone found that traffic for the applications peak during the four-month period when the international cricket season is at its height in Australia. During the 2011/2012 cricket season, 700,000 consumers downloaded the Cricket Live Australia application. Vodafone needed to be able to meet customer demand, but didn’t want to invest in additional resources that would be underutilized during cricket’s off-season.

When complex systems are developed for a customer and commissioned with a particular delivery state, a data management system can make it easier to archive commissioned versions and track subsequent changes made by the customer.

The researchers know from past experience that some banks do take security of their mobile applications seriously. These are the banks the researchers work with on a daily basis. Given no application in the sample set achieved an A or B rating, it emphasises how much in the minority these banks are.

The ability to enrich remote live video by virtual information does not exist in standard teleconferencing systems yet, partly because transmitting real-time captured 3D information over network has some disadvantages. For example, bandwidth requirements of 3D information are much higher than normal video. Also, in order to generate an accurate 3D representation, the environment must be captured from several directions. Normally, users are accustomed to pointing a video camera so that it captures only those parts of the environment that the user wants to show to remote participants of the video conference.

These are serious concerns, especially if blockchains are to usher in the kind of post-industrial revolution that its advocates are predicting. Most of us can’t even protect our passwords, much less our private keys; the idea of integrating a corporation with thousands of employees with a high-tech blockchain seems about as realistic as training a cow to trade derivatives.

WIN-911’s partner product ALERT is a key element in the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system “FabView” from Air Liquide. Air Liquide is the second largest supplier of industrial gasses in the world. This SCADA alarm notification system is specifically designed to monitor, among other things, the distribution of gas in a semiconductor manufacturing plant located in Dresden Germany. Like most operations of its type, this facility can’t afford much downtime in its distribution facility. If ALERT detects a leak in a pipeline, the system evaluates how severe the leak is and transfers the data back to the central site or home office. Once the information is back in the main office, the SCADA alert system then transcribes the data into understandable messages to which employees can respond appropriately.

Solution
zenon offers equipment efficiency built around the individual needs of each user. A tailored workstation is the key to ergonomic and efficient working. zenon makes it easy to adjust projects according to individual user needs, whether in advance or during running operations. zenon’s strong network encryption, comprehensive user management and unique security mechanisms advance the Vipoll equipment. By deploying zenon, Vipoll equipment runs safely and securely so that customers can feel confident in the solutions and feel at ease.
After deploying the iTank solution, which runs on a secure, scalable, and robust IoT Platform, Retif personnel and customers can now view tank levels and alerts in the iTank Management Portal. “The application is color-coded, so they simply look at the customers approaching the 25% full mark. This makes deliveries easy because they can pull up all of the deliveries in a designated area and just service those customers that meet a certain threshold in a geographic region, saving time, money and increasing efficiencies.” The deployment expanded across more tanks in Retif’s seven state coverage region. To date, Retif has deployed thousands of tank monitors, many of which were installed by Retif personnel.

Vodafone uses Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instances in Auto Scaling groups to create a web services tier for its mobile applications. Elastic Load Balancing automatically distributes traffic from the mobile applications across the instances. The company uses Amazon CloudWatch with Auto Scaling groups to monitor CPU usage and to scale from three Amazon EC2 instances to nine during peak periods automatically. Auto Scaling ensures that Vodafone only consumes the resources that it needs to meet demand. The web services tier integrates with a third-party content delivery system for voting and lives score information.

Schauer uses versiondog primarily for the versioning and archiving of customer projects. "Basically, complex logistics systems are developed for the customer and commissioned with a certain delivery state," Schauer explains. "versiondog compresses the versions and ensures that older versions do not get lost." In the past, archiving was a laborious task involving various combinations of numbers and letters. Now the intelligent data manager takes care of this automatically. As an interesting aside, versiondog only saves the changes, so the volume of data is kept to a reasonable level. "This is all particularly useful when customers also have access to the source code during a project," reveals Schauer. The Watchdog allowed Knapp to carry out online/offline comparisons at all times. "Whenever the customer made changes, we always knew about it," says Schauer. The option to directly compare programs also means that versiondog can rescue data in no time at all. When components fail, the system enables controlled and reliable restoration without delay. The data either remains on-site on the company's own servers or in a cloud environment. At Knapp, the data is stored on internal servers that are backed up on a regular basis. "This means that only Knapp and the customer have access to the data," says Schauer. [PLCs: The following devices are integrated] 3S CODESYS (Beckhoff TwinCat, WAGO, ELAU, Hitachi, Indramat), AEG, B&R Automation Studio, GE Proficy ME*, IBHsoftec S7 for Windows, IBHsoftec S5 for Windows, Mitsubishi GX Works2, Phoenix Contact, Pilz, Rockwell Automation RSLogix5, Rockwell Automation (RSLogix500, RSLogix5000), Schneider Unity, Schneider Concept, Schneider Modsoft, Siemens STEP 7, Siemens STEP 7 TIA, Siemens STEP 7 S7 for Windows, Siemens STEP 5, Siemens Simotion

New European regulations are putting more requirements on organisations to keep their customers’ data safe. The basis of the requirement is that the customer owns their data and an organisation “borrowing” that data has a duty of care over the information and needs to use “state of the art” security to keep customer data from fallings into unauthorised hands. Any lapses in that duty can result in large fines (up to €20m or 4% of turnover, whichever is higher).

In the new InterDigital solution [US 62/316,884], the user may restrict the 3D captured information transmitted to the remote users using the same method as in traditional video conferencing: by pointing a video camera in the desired direction. Even though the local 3D capture set-up generates 3D information of the whole environment, the system computes which 3D objects are visible in the camera view and transmits only those to the remote participants.

One new device may bring companies a half-step closer to a blockchain for industrial use. Filament has introduced the Blocklet, a penny-sized hardware dongle that will allow businesses to interface their equipment with blockchains. According to a statement from the company, the device “is designed to interact with multiple blockchains natively, giving businesses a way to attach secure hardware to their existing IoT machines allowing them to transact with each other directly.”

Operational Impact
Impact #1
Flexible industrial control with complete line monitoring
Before AWS, Vodafone could support a maximum of 3,000 simultaneous live streams. With AWS in place, Vodafone has been able to provide up to 10,000 simultaneous live streams and accommodate live scores requests at the rate of 1,000 requests per second (rps) during peak periods. In one month alone, Vodafone streamed more than 24 TB of data just for the iPhone. Vodafone uses an Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) for MySQL DB Instance to store cricket score information from content providers. Vodafone runs the DB Instance as a Multi-AZ deployment to automatically provision and manage one standby replica in a different Availability Zones, which minimizes the risk of downtime.
The parallel server licence means that company locations in Leoben and Sweden will soon follow suit. Whether in Sweden or Austria, it does not matter to the Watchdog. He keeps an eye on everything and makes sure no data gets lost.

It is not recommended to build security solutions in-house; rely on a proven solution that gets exposed via their broad install base, and has teams dedicated to securing mobile applications.

The InterDigital solution enables support for remote AR interaction using familiar video-based communication. A remote user can add virtual objects (any digital information for which spatiality gives added value, such as, for example, pictures, videos, graphics, text, and audio) to the local scene, which will be augmented to the video feeds transmitted from the local site over network to remote participants as well as presented to the local user through augmentation.

The Blocklet is a bit like a hardware wallet, targeted and marketed for Industrial IoT use. In short, the Blocklet attempts to do for industrial blockchains what the Ledger and Trezor do for ‘consumer’ applications such as Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Every worker has their own personalised access, simply by using their Windows username and password.

It is important to plan ahead so that the risk is reduced and a remediation plan is in place to minimise any fallout both in terms of image and PR but also technically.

Instead of having to navigate the maze of block explorers and private keys, the tiny device can be simply plugged into a computer’s USB ports to interact with data on multiple blockchains.

Device binding is a technique to lock an instance of the mobile application to a particular phone. This stops the application being cloned. It also helps control access to back-end servers as user credentials can be locked to a given device.

Filament believes that devices like the Blocklet will play a key role in the “Industrial Internet of Things,” a growing ecosystem of smart, internet-enabled manufacturing technologies, whose economic influence is expected to exceed $12 trillion by 2030.
