IoT Spotlight Podcast introduction:

The IIoT Spotlight Podcast shines a light on Industrial IoT solutions that are impacting businesses today. Every episode we interview an expert about a specific IoT use case. Our goal is to provide insight into the planning and implementation of IIoT systems, from new business models to technology architecture selection to data ownership and security. The IIoT Spotlight is produced by IoT ONE, an information platform that provides market insight, partner development, and go-to-market support for technology providers, end users, and investors. Summary:

At this year's LiveWorx '17 technology conference, PTC President and CEO Jim Heppelmann in his keynote speech explained that while IoT and AR are necessities to one another, CAD and PLM are the real “match makers” that fuse them together before going on to declare that "IoT is PLM." What exactly does this mean though? What better way to find out then tuning in to the final part of this episode where Steve Dertien, Senior Vice President, Technology at PTC will run us through use cases in areas such as product development and how PTC's PLM technology is driving transformative change for businesses today.

Blurbs:

"PTC was involved early on to help them [Flowserve] understand how to evolve their product from effectively a commodity to a high-scale value offering that they can take to customers."

"We have a great partner relationship with GE in terms of using Thingworx technology, so on that end there's more synergy than there is competitiveness - we have a flavor of Thingworx for Predix that allows them to unlock the value from that."

On the one piece of advice for companies in early-stage planning for an IoT deployment in order to maximize the chance of success:

"They're not alone, they're not pioneering something new. There is a sufficient wealth of M2M experience over the past decade or so, including what PTC brings to bear so basically field their questions early and often with vendors so that they know where they are within the realm of technologies that exist today."

"There are a large number of customers who have already crossed this path before so you don't have to reinvent the wheel."
